I guess I should have said might. SEO alone will not bring traffic. It will most likely help, but you definitely need to promote it.

Thats right Chris. I'm finding this out more and more as I read the mulititude of ebooks, web-pages, sites, etc. Optimization will bring you a little but not enough to convert to business dollars. And thats' the bottom line isn't it? To make $ for your efforts.

One best way to get traffic to your site is setting up mini nets forming it a link wheel. Just like the wheel, the hub is your main site/mother site. After which, you can make the first level mini-nets as your second level mother sites. The more the links, the more google will recognize it. Always remember, Quality is best than Quantity..

There rare lots of ways to drive traffic to your website, although a few rules have tightened in recent months due to the changed Google content farming rules of Feb. 2011, so it's not as straightforward with article submission and building squidoo lenses.

I think a lot depends on what sort of site you have as to the best ways to get traffic.

Facebook and Adwords are good, but they are very expensive per click.

Eg I have a site where I sell my physical product.

I am already on the first page of Google organically.

And I don't want to use links on my site, as I don't think that looks good on a ecommerce site.

But I need to get lots more traffic at a cost effective rate.

I would like to get some affiliates and some banner ads.
But finding them is very time consuming.
And Affiliate sites seem to want so much cash up front for unknown results.

The social media optimization includes bookmarking sites, social networks, blog commentaries, article submission, directory submission and taking part in the group discussions at social platforms like LinkedIn etc...

This is the cheapest and quickest way if improvised meticulously, results awesomely.

What we all need to remember is that for every new website or blog that is started, it makes it harder or all the rest.
People only spend a certain amount of time surfing, or googling, or social mediaing.
