SEO is a critical component in building a business on the web. It is the element that will "make it or break it" for any business that depends on it for exposure. While all the suggestions you've been given so far are good its more complicated then that.

when you implement these suggestions you better do them right or you'll be landing on the "break it" side. If I were you I would start reading everything I could get my hands on regarding all aspects of SEO. Buy some books on SEO and different subjects like writing content, (content is king!) keywords, marketing, social networking, ad sense, etc. take an online course.....or you could just pay another company to do it all for you!

Yes there is only one way and that is to use white hat seo, write articles and go from there I would only build around 40 to 50 links per day to start with for the first year mixing it up with directory submissions and blog posts. Good Luck - don't forget it takes time to move up the ranks safely.
