I have a couple vinyl cutters from when i tried to start a vinyl sign business. One day i was thinking maybe i should put a decal on my car with my website address. A few weeks later i noticed my hits increased by about 20-30 a day i know it does not sound like much but every little bit helps. just thought i would share something that helped me out a little you can get decals pretty cheap at local shops or online a decent size decal should be around 5-10 bucks.

Also something i thought about but have not tried is hand out free decals to friends or even strangers people love stickers lol and curiousity is great people see a web address and have to know what its about

And how can you be sure of the source of this extra traffic?

You are right digitaloutlaw,

I have one site that is what got me started trying to learn to build websites.

I am a X construction worker and built a site about companies and jobs and construction type news. I made up hard hat stickers and would give them to workers on the jobs I was on.

Man did that work YES Big time

Business cards, book matches, ink pens are worth so much more then paying some so called seo expert 300 bucks so he can tell you you need a whole new site built "In my humble opinion"

while i cant be 100% chrishirst but after i made the decals the sites direct traffic in analytics is where the change was

before most of the traffic was from referring sites or other links to the site not the direct address

Good work digitaloutlaw! I'm thinking of making some bumper stickers or something to that effect for my site. I drive an hour and a half each way to my day job every day through busy rush hour traffic. It would have to gain me at least a couple extra hits.

Really smart idea, we always see drinks advertisements on buses, so this is a new clue, i think i will follow the tip.

That's a pretty good indicator then, this is where parked or pointed hostnames are extremely useful. By using a different name for different types of marketing you can tell how effective a advertising method is and sometimes more importantly if it is sustainable source of traffic/sales.

The aim of any marketing/advertising method is to catch the curiousity of the viewer and if you can do that with car stickers, hard hat stickers, beer mats, leaving a stack of cards in pub toilets, t-shirt slogans, etc etc then test it, just remember not every website/page will benefit from these tactics, and when a tactic becomes less effective rest it and move on.

Very good advice Chris if the idea is not working then move on something else may benefit you more. If you try something like this do not dump alot of cash into upfront test the waters

After putting a little more thought into this. If you have the spare 10 bucks and a .net or .info name is available that matches your website you could use that just for decals then setup analytics for that domain name and then you could be sure that any direct traffic to that domain came from the decals

Are you sure it's the source of the extra traffic you are gaining? Check it first in your Google analytics or other statistic checker.
