I've just added my press release to most of those sites above (those that were 100% free).

I'm going to see what sort of reaction it gets. I'll keep you all updated.

If you're serious about any kind of coverage, you need to contact "real" newswires in addition to, or instead of, basic distribution sites. For example, you can email or fax your release (free) to the appropriate editor, beat writer, or regional bureau of the Associated Press. You can find their contact info through AP.org.

PRweb is pretty solid (pay em though). If your press release is worthy, you'll have a shot at real media pickups--aside from all the PR slurping websites.

If you used PRweb (and paid), you should already be in Google news, and don't need to "try for it." If you want to be in Google news without paying though, that's easy too; just submit to PR.com

yeah good list above....the free ones might give you a nice little perk in traffic

but you will get some good results from places like prweb.com it will cost you but the traffic that you can get if you write a very nice little article will give you some good results.

have a look at some of the good articles on their and get ideas. I know one person who went from 20 hits a day to 10,000 hits every day because of his press release....now his traffic has died down but his sales were like X10, Outstanding...but again it all comes down to how well you write it.

if you cant do it your self pay a professional it will pay to do so.

Do you guys feel that the subscription (paid) PR sites are that much more worth it than the free PR sites?

In addition to that list of press release outlets, I would also recommend contacting your local newspapers, even smaller community/neighborhood papers.

That's an excellent list Here's a few more, although some of these are more region-specific:

www.ameinfo.com
www.prlog.org
www.przoom.com
www.zawya.com
www.tradearabia.net
www.pressbox.co.uk
www.pressmethod.com

On the strength of this post I gave PR Web a try after writing an article about SEO. The article isn't anything new but for $200 it got a decent take up and because of this it improved my rankings considerably.

Not sure if I can add the link in this post but to see the results so if you are interested cut and paste this line of text in to Google "Spend More on Marketing in a Recession, SEO".

I would recommend PR Web for this type of service as it worked for me and I will try it for some of my clients in the future. Has anyone used the free news article websites? What were the results?

cheers
Dan

PS. If the text about my article is removed then send me a PM and I'll send you the link

You shouldn't forget that several unique articles published can bring you more good than 50 duplicates.
