A month or so ago, I purchased via ebay, a lot of email addresses for email marketing.

Total of one billion at least.

Now, This week I worked on a small few of them only 370 or so of them. From that, where I have the domains located at got so many complaints that they chose to 'disable a domain' of mine.

Ok, I must admit I sent around 6x emails to each address.

The place I have domains at, do have a clear 'no spam' policy. But where I have the websites hosted at does not have that same issue.

What do people here think I should do about this?
++Move my domains to someone else and start again?
++Stop the use of this emailing list forever?
++Or something else?

Didn't you know that spam is illegal? It's invasive, and dangerous. Domains have anti-spam policies in place for a reason. Its against the law. Their mail servers are set up to filter, report, reject or redirect spam.

Sending 6x to each address was beyond overkill. I'm surprised the domains didn't disable all your accounts.

The ebay purchase was a waste of your money. A billion addresses? really? I can guarantee that 99% of those are no good.

Sending out emails to random addesses is NOT email marketiing. Its spamming. An email marketing campaign is sending out announcements to a targeted audience that would more than likely to be interested in whatever it is that your message contains.

Examples of this would be sending out mail to:

current or prior customers
potential customers that have indicated an interest in the subject of the email message
friends and/or family

The obvious answer to your question is: Stop the use of this email list (or any other) forever!

Yes I can understand why they disabled your domain, just on the complaints alone, this company has to answer to these people. The damage is done, and you have lost credibility which will be a hard road to climb. Have you checked to see if you are on the blacklist?

I wouldn't advise using any emailing lists.....

When you say blacklisted, I am not sure what you mean.

I have checked with yahoo search with two of the websites, and I am on the top of the list.

How would they go with 'dynamic' IP addresses?

Dont most of them change frequently?

They do and it is very frustrating when you happen to end up on one of those blocked IPs. Which is the reason I pay an extra £5 a month for a fixed IP. So, as you can imagine there is little love lost between myself and the "home spammers"

However your mail server will have a fixed IP

Different thing entirely.
Search engines do not monitor your email activities for spamming.

the only correlation is that email spam is not wanted by the recipients and SE spam is not wanted by the search engines who are also the recipients.

The best thing you can do for your business right now is work on rebuilding your reputation. If you can set those sites up under a new domain - do it. You never mentioned what the business of these sites are - depending on what your products are there are different ways to promote them but I would need more info to suggest.

Above all you must maintain a level of integrity with each site or page. Good content is extremely important. start reading the threads here to get ideas on how to draw traffic and increase sales.

One of the websites was a focus of the old webmaster-talk website. I did not list them here as I was not sure if this would be a breach of this forums rules.

I do engage in Google Adwords and the Facebook equivelent, although finance is somewhat limited. I only get 5 days out of 14 if I am lucky.

I have paid some guys in the USA to advertise on the side of their automobiles.

Also, I have business card sized items which I put into peoples mail boxes when I go walk abouts. Been looking on a grand release of them in my local area, except I have been so busy in getting the websites up and going.

ERATTA,

One of the websites was a focus of the website reviews back then. Be surpised if more of my sites where not listed there also.

Two of the websites now feature in my signlature, and I should look at two or three more.

Not sure what you mean by "a focus of the old WT site" do you mean you blogged about it? was it about the website reviews? the items you put in mailboxes are they advertising your current sites or something else?

The advertising you do on cars here in the US is good. keep that up if it's bringing you sales.

I looked at your sites. It looks like one has a calculator and another app on it but they both looked unfinished. I would definitely finish them and sell your advertising space to help with the costs. It doesn't matter what kind of ads you put on there because the site is generic. In other words its not about a specific subject. It looks like one is about your design business but I wasn't sure about that. just my opinion but I think your message could be made more clear on that one website

Sorry for my long delay.

Now responding to questions in postings above..

I had posted something about my website in the old webmaster-talk.com of which this website was once known as. It was in the section for website reviews.

I have gotten the message. All the email lists I had, are all now deleted. So I can no longer send any SPAM to anyone any more.

On all of my websites, there is a lineup of four ad boxes. These are just under the page heading. These currently advertise my own websites. Other websites that I own.

I will be back later this week or so to respond to any further questions.

Good to see you are learning. I looked at your sites. You've got to change the font text on them. Its extemely hard to read. Use a font like Georgia or Arial.

I made this mistake before. I bought a mailing list of 1 Million addresses and my domain was suspended for a few days. But I only sent 1 email to each address and it was a newsletter i send out with an unsubscribe link. Still it was a amateur mistake because I was new to the whole Internet Marketing stuff and didn't have patience. Get rid of that list, it is no good. But seriously, 1 BILLION!!? Dude that like 1/7 of the world. Anyways you learned from it.
