I need ways to advertise on-line that are inexpensive.

Could I get feedback on directories..Does adding your site to related directories bring traffic?

How effective is link exchange with your competition?

Any place on the internet that you have your website listed is a potential place that someone will click on it. Directorys are great for targeted traffic.

One directory in particular, DMOZ (the open directory) is very important to submit to. It will greatly boost your Google ranking.

Yes google any many other popular websites use the DMOZ directory. http://www.dmoz.org

Find a nitche directory site and follow the backlinks of some of the sites listed. You'll eventually find a serial directory submitter. Submit to all directory sites that accepted their site. Chances are they accept you too.
