How would I know if thoese directories are reputable and honest, not the link farm stuff?

Visit them and find out... I have found plenty of great places to add my link but as anything make sure you link in the relative category of your site... and on that list 2 must have's are Dmoz and Jadye but good luck getting in DMoz took my one site 2 years before it got listed btu I am so glad it did.

Very nice hits. They generate some hits.

As this list is so popular and I am finding more and more suitable free directories I am going to keep adding to it every week or so
