I want to add my site to directories for inbound links but can anyone suggest any, I only want UK traffic and link categories which are relevant to my site.

just find out some directories with co.uk domain and try to submit your website in those directories. However, submitting your website in some UK directories may not help you greatly to get some traffic. You need to try some seo techniques for this purpose.

You definitely need to optimize your site.

Blog comments in my opinion are great...so are press releases

You can also buy targeted traffic, try viral marketing, Email marketing...getting mails from uk, and then sending an specific email promoting your site/services.

^ Yeah right, classified really helps if you want to promote your site in a local area.. Also,try to exchange link in those sites that is popular in UK.

But what must be done if in your country .tld there is not many directories?

Directory submission is not that helpful to submit to many directories. I suggest you submit it major directories and focus more on other building link strategies.

Directories are good along with writing useful, informative, relevant blog posts and socially bookmarking each post. This builds backlinks with proper anchor text.

Try to find related .uk blogs or forums by using this command site:*.uk keywords + forums / blog or you can just use this command itself site:*.uk keywords then go to options on google search results.
