I'm surprised that today's webmasters forgot old and good method - links exchange with related sites. It takes some time, but I'm sure this method still works.

I always believe quality prevails over quantity. Getting two good quality link is far better than getting 100 odd links from Forum Link Drops or blog commenting which will eventually fade out. Also, typically Google is smart enough to understand this and does a good work segregating quality inbound link from blog or forum comment link.
