Charging for advertising space?? How much?

I'm starting a web company with a launch date near christmas, and I have no clue on how much to charge for advertising banners and streaming commercials. I have no competion in the market to base any sort of comparison for rates. My only comp. is a magazine in print form. Anyone have some ideas on where to start?

I've seen websites and other forums that were offering 60 bucks on advertising banners and streaming commercials, while other advertisement methods are down to 20 and 30 bucks..

I think another factor would depend on the kind of traffic your site is getting.

I recently paid 200 dollars to get a fixed banner for a site that draws 65,000 unique/month. Mind you 65,000 is not a whole considering not even a 10th is going to be clicking on your ad.

I will still research that as much as i can, infact that is how i got to this website!! From what i can gather it seems that $20 or $30 seems awfully low, but i have seen a few articles saying about the same. Should i just launch the site and monitor how much traffic is coming in for the first month or so and then go after advertising? I guess my site is derived from advertising aand the info would be free until then, but i do not know.

The higher a pr you have the more you can charge Try a redirct to a high pr site for a couple months will give it to you I think this still works. then Take off the redirect and should be golden

So if i wait to boost my pr, then i wait to obtain advertiser's correct? I guess that is the ultimate question. My site is derived of local casinos in my geographical area and the content on my site ....... well lets just say it a wealth of info on each casino. I would love to land some banner advertising upon the launch date.

Yes. Launch the site, focus on pleasing your users and getting as much traffic as possible, and then set up ads.

Its really hard to say since deciding on how much to ask pretty much depends on a lot of factors, on your site, your regular traffic, and etc..

Naturally, you charge as much as others are willing to pay....I would start lower on a monthly or quarterly basis to get the first ad sale.
