- Forums - Participate in online forums related to your business. Don't link spam.
- Social networks - Create groups on sites like Twitter. Offer your knowledge to others, or discount promotions.
- Craigslist - There's a category for everything there. Follow the rules though and don't be a spammer.
- Non-spam comments on blogs. Offer your useful & relevant opinion and they shouldn't mind if you put your URL at the bottom.
- Submission to quality directories.

- Distribute a free eBook about a topic related to your website.

None of these ways are good, all of them have short-term impacts, most of them are scheduled for elimination by the greater machinations of the web. Forums are NOT for publicizing websites. Forums are forums. If you think you can use them for something else, you're wasting your time and business totally.
I shall not bother detailing what's wrong with all those methods but instead will give you a list of legitimate methods, some free, some cheap, some expensive.
1. Genuinely useful content: by making pages which cause users to be pleased with what they have found, and thus causing those users to spread the brand through repeated use, perhaps talking and also through the patterns of usage engines and other analysts find happening in relation to your site, you will get, over time, more and more and more traffic and "rank" and power. There is NO RULE about how many keywords, what your page should look like, what its "google pagerank" should be, etc. None at all. Defy all the stupid rules and stick to the GOLDEN RULE - websites that help people so much that their gratitude is what drives your market forwards. I have seen nothing but hosting costs (at a time when i paid 400 quid a year) power a website which sold around 250,000 pounds sterling of retail goods over 18 months. The reason was simple - the users loved it, and kept coming back, and lots of machines noticed this and sent as many users as they could to me.
2. Buy advertising - Google Adwords is a brilliant way to get traffic and due to the recession its prices are dropping as 10s of 1000s of idiots who just use it for selling rubbish are unable to make enough money back. It is the best place to get traffic from in the present day and even outranks the "golden-rule traffic" since you can acquire absolutely loads of it overnight, just for paying google a little bit of cash for every person they send you. Don't overbid - don't be an extravagant fool.
3. Be very patient. Don't sit there spamming every day, doing stupid things like blogs and forums. BLOGS are for liberating oppressed societies, FORUMS are for sharing info with likeminded people. Selling via these media, or marketing via them, is absolutely spineless and pathetic and doing so makes it clear to any sales professional that you are NOT a sales professional.
Thank you and good morning.
