I recently became a member of Twitter and have enjoyed a steady flow of traffic as a result but I have a question about using twitback as a marketing tool. I used twitback.com to design my Twitter background but I see that they also offer to promote Twitter profiles through directory submissions. Has anyone used Twitback for this purpose and if so how effective was it?

Honestly, I have never used twitback I always use twits for my traffic.

See the key to twitter is using it daily as you would using IM. I mean alot of people get on twitter and use it for marketing only and then people end up not following you anymore because people don't want to be advertised to every day when they get online.

Use it normally and regularly and you will start to see great amounts of traffic.

Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I've been doing on Twitter in my brief time there. I figured I'd get more out of it by not adding my link to every post and trying to exactly add something of value to my followers. I was just curious about whether the twitback offer was effective.

Yes, you will find out that if you are just general and use twitter as it was designed to use and not spam your information then you will get alot more traffic and the traffic will be more real and directed toward your niche.

Hi, I agree. But don't tweet too often. YOu know the people who tweet 10 to 50 times a day, I usually stop following them because it's not good content, but junk tweets. Try to make your info helpful and people will continue to follow you.

This is so true, I mean I normally get about 2 or 3 people to follow me a day, and I start doing quality, normal content and i got about 20 followers in 2 hours.

Great point.

If you keep tweeting about yourself and trying to use it as a promotional tool it will eventually go bust.

What you have to do is mix it up, be honest, and I think you should draw in some good traffic and loyal readers. It's really the best approach.

Yes, just think of twitter as what it was meant to be a large IM (instant message).

When you log on to your favorite IM program, you don't go to your friends that are on there and start marketing to them and telling them about all the offers you are doing, they will ignore you.

That is exactly what will happen if you do it on twitter as well.

This is very simple really. Large companies and media use twitter because they get a large amount of followers because A) They are such a large company B) They are so popular.

Now, their objective is to update the world, they normally do this by having put updates on their site, but just because they put updates on their sites it doesnt mean that everyone who normally comes to their site will know about it, because they may not be in front of their computer, they may be in the car etc.

But if they make updates on twitter, then 9 out of 10 people have mobile twitter, so they will be updated no matter where they are at the time.

Great improvement for the media.

For advertising- use it subliminally - follow people you're interested in, do not immediately follow 2000 people expecting them all to follow you - a) they won't and b) you'll be spotted as a spammer and banned.
Start off by adding people you actually know, engage in genuine dialogue and conversations, and build up follwers and following slowly. If you've got something interesting to promote, mention it occasionally to people who you have reason to think will be interested.
