When you start a thread I noticed that when it comes up on search engine that it is readily shown in its entirety when clicked on. VS When you have replied to someone Else's thread and your data comes up on search engine but when clicked on, it still shows the lead creators thread and if your data is to be viewed in its entirety you must search through the thread to find it. This being the case is it not better to be the thread starter for best search engine placement?

for me it doesn't matter both still count as backlinks...

For me, it doesnt matter whether you are the one who start the thread or not.

apart from that

starting threads here just for some dubious "SE benefit" means they probably won't last long to get crawled anyway.
