Hi all, about ten years ago when the Internet was just starting, I had a very popular website about Star Trek. (Yes, Star Trek!) It was one of the top 3 Star Trek sites on the Internet back then. And of course, back then, AdSense didn't exist, lol. But anyways, the site is now long gone.
Recently, I've started getting back into webmastering. I'm building a travel website to my hometown (and you guessed it, favourite city), Toronto. You can find it at
http://www.rethinkto.com. But like I said, it's been ten years since I've been a webmaster, and am no longer up-to-speed on how to promote a website.
I've started answering questions on Yahoo! Answers that's Toronto-related, and only generating about 10-20 hits for about 5 questions that I answer. I've also started a Facebook group about Toronto with a link back to the site, that brings me visitors a bit. But all in all, I have about 100 visitors a day. Which is not 0, but still, can be a lot better.
Any tips on how to promote a website? Of course, I understand that "toronto travel" would be a very niche market, unlike other sites with topics that are more "everyday." It's not everyday you plan a visit to Toronto or any other city. But any help you have would be greatly appreciated.
I've just started using Digg, del.icio.us and other social bookmarking sites. Just... like yesterday. I'm still new to it. Like I said, these sites didn't exist 10 years ago! Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, I should also mention that my AdSense ads has a click-through rate of about 5%! (But since I have 100 visitors, I'm only generating about $0.30 a day.)
Thanks,
Eugene
