I just launched A day On The Block (The link is in my signature, too.)
80% of the homepage is one huge billboard. It's the only reason the site exists. This billboard is auctioned off every day for a year. It's basically a supply-and-demand experiment. So it might be a good advert opportunity for some people around here because I'm sure it will be cheap at first.
Here's what you guys will really like, though. I'll be posting all the stats on how much each board goes for and how many hits it gets along with everything else in the data section. This is why I'm doing it. If I'm lucky I'll make some money, but either way me and anyone else who's interested will hopefully be able to learn something about the nature of fads/marketing/meme's and online advertising in general.
I don't know exactly what I would be able to tell you from looking at this data in 6 months or a year, but I'll bet some people around here could make some brilliant deductions. So It's kind of about an open-door market research test rolled into a nice advert opportunity for people like me (small indy sites) and if I play my cards right, maybe I'll be able to buy a new computer before my wife graduates, instead of having to wait a year.
Oh, and I'm not too sure about anyone's politics around here, but 25% of every auction will be donated to The Electronic Frontier Foundation.
The first auction ends tonight at 7pm US CST. Soon (like a few hours) after that the data page will go up and be updated daily.
Yeah!? Or Nay!? Let me know.
