I agree about editing your copy, but be careful about pasting anything back AFTER it's been in Microsoft Word. Word tends to add its own formatting.

The only clean way to do it is to copy from word to notepad and be sure to replace all the custom characters. The most common of which are ' "

Leaving the word characters in a web page is where most of those little [] boxes come from on a web page.

On linux, there is a program called ispell that you can point to an html file. It works wonders.

For general proof-reading, the amazon mechanical turk is an awesome resource.
