Link building is the key for an effective SEO campaign. This works best for PR and SERP. Always provide useful and relevant content in your websites niche as this will help in quality organic linking - sites will naturally link to your site once they see unique and helpful information in your site. Keep in mind that the more targeted backlinks you build for your site, the more likely it will bring in the right visitors that could make the conversions for better revenue. You do targeted link buidling for fast and long term traffic to your sites.

There are several ways to build links. Here are just some of the following:

Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
Social Bookmarking
Classified Ads
Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
Link Exchange - with relevant sites authority sites
Link Baits - for organic linking
Etc. etc.

What are your thoughts? What kind of link building method do you use and how effective has it been?

Absolutely none at all, and it seems to work perfectly ok for me

BTW; None of these:
Quote:
Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
Social Bookmarking
Classified Ads
Should be considered as "link building"

All those are advertising and promotion.

Now why are you trying to manipulate like that?

What about creating something worth linking to? And not put so much focus on "link building techniques".

Want to know the best link building technique? It's called nature backlinking, you naturally gain backlinks from people interested and wanting to share your content. You should be busy building rich content for your website, no playing around with back alley SEO ideas that are out dated or don't perform well enough to be worth the time.

None of the above. I do some the things listed, but not for SEO purposes (with one exception):

Directory submissions: if I'm bored and have nothing better to do, or just to get a site quickly crawled (ranking doesn't really enter into play here because I just am looking for a quick index...hence the "SEO purposes"). I usually end up with much more to do after that.

Blog/forum postings: I couldn't care less about the PR. I do it because I have something to add to the topic or ask about it. If people visit my site as a result of my insight, that's a bonus.

Social bookmarking: I build stuff worth being socially bookmarked.

Classified ads: why? I'm not selling anything.

Article marketing: I'd use this for traffic gain, if SEO wannabes hadn't taken what was a good idea in principle and watered it down McDonald's orange drink-style with a bunch of useless crap that somehow my article is supposed to be picked out of. Dead concept, unless you write a good article and get lucky enough to have the article picked up (or you're mentioned in one that has the same effect...that's happened to me on two non-consecutive occasions).

Link exchange: I believe that link exchange is a magic bullet. People who link exchange for SEO purposes end up with a bullet that magically ends up in their foot.

Link baits: this, like social bookmarking, only comes from content that is worth taking the bait from. <snip>

I'm surprised to hear that you get targeted traffic from the sources you gave above. Are you able to give any details/numbers?

Well, from your title, we kind of got the impression you were talking about SEO . As Gringo asked, do you have any specific numbers?

Here is a graph of our current traffic stats for your reference http://advertise.mixcat.com/graph2007.gif or you may also check out our Alexa stats..

As per SEO value - we got the top position for the keyword "targeted backlinks" in Google doing most of the things listed above

Actually for me SearchBliss (kline11) is top for that search .

but as there is only ~20k pages actually competing it's really not worth bragging about

Explained here as well. After the little experiment, I could now opt for some major keyword or phrase worth bragging about

I have also read that domain name DOES matter for search result. Sometimes domain name is easy to remember (somethinblabla) but domain names with dashes /something-antotherting.end/ are supposed to have better search result.
Some time ago I have tried crazy thing.
I have paid domain like www.download-downloading-downloader .... com - just longest possible to cover "keywords"
I did not have time to work on it yet so I just redirected the domain to downloader.in but I am not sure whether there is any result or not.
So maybe I will not renew the name as I have to many names and I am trying to optimize my portfolio.
Do you think that it is possible (to get better result because of more keywords in domain names?) Or is it nonsense and loss of time+effort?
