After setting up your own site, what kind of ways you do to promote your site and get more traffic?

Theres way to get traffic to your site instantly using social bookmarking links as well as buying strategic links. I still think the best way is to build up your search engine rankings, this will provide steady traffic for years! If you want traffic straight away i know some ways?

Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
Social Bookmarking
Classified Ads
Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
Link Exchange - with relevant sites authority sites
Link Baits - for organic linking
Etc. etc.

For one of my funny forum pictures website I do the following...

I allow people to hotlink the pictures, they are provided a code on the page that contains the funny picture to add it to whatever forum they want, this includes a backlink to my site. I just ban URLs that don't use the correct code in htaccess, its daunting task, but some one has to do it

Produce over 20,000+ unique backlinks (stats via google webmasters central) with this method in about a year.

For myself the answer has been article marketing.

- It establishes you as an expert in your field
- You can build hundreds of backlinks to
your site with a relatively small amount of work!

* Add an RSS subscribe button/link in a high profile spot on your site
* Submit a blog to a blog directory

More than that If you are a goods seller having site, Email marketing is the right choise.

Hey, osagie irowa here. Here is how to promote your site. However, I would stay away from Google Adwords until you have lots of money to test on online marketing.

1.Submitting your site to free high page rank directories.
2.Squidoo.com
3. Create a blog and link back to your site.
4. Join forums in your market and promote your site there.
5. Exchange links with similar websites, using good "anchor texts".
6. Google Adwords (no my preference)
7. Write and submit articles online with a link back to your website.
8. Create an email list of friends and have them forward your link to everyone they know(my favorite)
9. Buy links to your site (if Google catches you, say goodbye, as they might ban your site)

When it comes to selling your own product or service, nothing beats setting up an affiliate program. Help others make money while they help you - Its a win/win situation

submit to free directories, post links in forum posts and siggys, invite friends, seo, and, adwords

Content is the king
Then go for promoting

I have found joining social networks and forums to be the best way of gaining traffic to your site. There are many other ways that will bring traffic too but it's not good traffic. Putting your site in auto surfs isn't really any good. Now a good paid to read that pays at least a penny per read isn't bad. I've had over 300 hits this week from a place like that. I've only had my site a few months and I found it on the top of page 5 in google. I thought that was pretty good.

Don't get over excited, it will soon drop down when they have analysed everything and work out it's just one more PPP site among hundreds of thousands

I'm going to stay excited for awhile. It's on page 2 number 4 spot today. It's fun seeing it there. Never expected to see it anywhere near the search engines.
