It's no good giving discounts to get business if that business actually cost money!
|
Dude, you're so dumb! Everyone knows that losing money on a sale doesn't matter if you can make up that loss in volume. Losing money x lots and lots of sales = making lots of money. I always have to explain EVERYTHING to you.
Seriously, this is a rather strange question to ask. The answer is that "it CAN work, but it depends on a number of factors".
1) Whether you still make money (no point giving a discount just to break even or lose money; I don't care what "loss leader" theory states, you almost always get screwed, particularly if you only have a small number of products and services for sale.)
2) Is your business a "one-off" sort of business, or is repeat business common?
3) Are other people offering the same sort of discount?
4) Do you really need to offer the discount in the first place?
5) How low can you go and still make a comfortable profit (a profit that could cover any overages due to human stupidity, for example)?
And so on and so on.
Ultimately, the only way to find out the answer to all these questions is simply to float your idea and see if it works (which it appears you already have and today's the last day. I'm only responding because rose77mary77 gave such a silly answer that someone had to inject some common sense into it.)
