G'day and thanks in advance to anyone who ponders a response to my question! I'm afraid I've wandered so far into the forest I've run out of bread crumbs. What I'm asking here may be VERY SIMPLE...

I've designed a nice web site that uses Frames. Normally I would not do this but I needed a very simple means to render content driven by a Flash menu (SWF). Linking to Frame Names was simple but now I encounter...
The dreaded "White Flash of Death"!

This forum inquiry is not about Flash or the "white flash" that appears before an SWF loads. Instead I'm asking...

How to create a page layout where I can make a link reference a "container"? In the Frame world it is as simple as specifying which Frame Name in the link.
This web site has a static menu on the left - all other space is used to render content.

If I ditch frames, how do I define the container for content and then write the link for it?

Here is the link to my work in progress.

You'll have to use IE because I've not yet tuned the site's multi-browser capabilities. When you get there - click the RWANDA Link followed by the BOY WITH NO NAME Link. You will see the white flash but disregard that - my hopes are that busting out of frames will reveal the cause/solution.

Thanks again to anyone who can assist. If it means anything - the success of this site could have positive impact on the plight of the Rwandan people.

Using CSS and some javascript, or PHP would do the trick. You give the "container" div an ID and then you reference that ID as the destination in the scripting.

Having a static menu is a bad reason for using frames.
I was able to see the site just fine with FF 2.0, and there was no 'white flash of death'.

If you're going to use flash as your navigation, something I'd urge you NOT to do, then you need to make sure that you also have a PLAIN TEXT menu alternative on every page. Search engines cannot read flash and could not index your site w/o any TEXT links.
