Hello, I have put together a page using #006 template from http://www.templateyes.com/html-templates.htm

It comes with a table width set at 760. That fills up my 17" screen, but when looking at it on my sons laptop it lacks quite a bit filling his screen.

What is the recommended or excepted number to use for todays mix of wider screens and older size?

thanks

John

760 is a good size.

It's a good idea to assume that the average user is still using an 800px width screen resolution, even though most new computers far exceed that.

If you're that worried about it, consider using a liquid layout.

Liquid layouts are based on percentages of screen width (the most common being 100%), rather than fixed widths (e.g. 760px.)

Just keep in mind that, when you design your liquid layout, you will have to make sure not to put too many objects such as images on the same horizontal plane. In other words, design it as if your site were only 760 pixels wide and expandable.

Also keep in mind that not all layouts look good if stretched out on higher resolution screens. A layout that looks great at 800x600 or 1024x768 may look awful to someone viewing at 1600x1280 - or more. A lot depends on your content whether or not it winds up looking too stretched, not enough content and your layout will look odd.

That site is done in all Flash, and it is NOT a good idea. If you're concerned with search engines, there is nothing there for a spider to crawl.. spiders can't read anything in an all-Flash site. If you care anything about accessibility, then an all-flash site is completely inaccessible to anyone who has a disability and must use a screen reader or other assistive technology. Anyone using a text-only browser will also see NOTHING on an all-flash site.

I would recommend if u really want to be a bit flashy only use a flash movie for intros and loaders etc. it still makes ur site look that little bit unique and still allows robots to crawl ur site.

dont ask about how to do it i cant really get my head around flash.
