Help! I have an HTML and asp webpage that uses a small FLASH header.

I'm hearing that some people's firewalls(?) are blocking the entire webpage because of this small FLASH header.

What can I do? I like the FLASH header. I know that some people's security settings require them to click on the header - that is fine. I'm not worried about that. I am worried about someone not being able to see the entire webpage!

Is there some kind of "detect" that I can do, that will detect the security settings and serve up a more appropriate header?

Thanks in advance,

Well, some people cant even get on the internet because of sick and twisted norman/norton settings. I would go with the flash header if thats your main concern. Many clients set up their pc's to do many weird things, but this is not a default or common one of them.

Are you using the <embed> tag to put the Flash on the page ?? That might be one problem. What version of Flash are you using and what version are you setting for the player when you publish the Flash file ?

Yes, I am using the embed tag. Here is the code. What do you think? Is there anything I can do?

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" width="760" height="150" id="flash_header"><param name="movie" value="/img/swf/flash_headerv6.swf"><param name="quality" value="high"><embed src="/img/swf/flash_headerv6.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="760" height="150"></embed></object>

Thanks in advance,

There are several alternatives to using <embed>, which causes problems in IE (they lost the EOLAS patent lawsuit).

Here's a good article on the subject:
Valid Flash, video, and audio embed (object) markup - The Web Standards Project

I use the SWFObject, but UFO looks pretty good too.

You might also check your publish settings. I know for FlashPlayer 8 we had some trouble with the security settings. Once we changed that, we stopped getting error messages when accessing the page.

As the author of the linked post, I just wanted to say thank you for praising SWFObject/UFO without slagging on anything.

It is a GREAT article Clearly shows the various options, something for everyone's preferences. I see no reason to slag anything
