I'm learning some things about web design slowly, I have already built a site, but I want to improve some things.
Since I'm a begginer in all this, I would appreciate some advices.

I have a question about background image size. How big in kb can it be to load in few secs? I have a high speed dsl connection so I can't test it properly, but is 156 kb for background too much? Also I would appreciate any other advice on setting a background image, thank you.

Second thing I want to ask is about moving frame, I don't know what it is called (english is not my native language), but I can show you an example here on this sites banner http://riona.ri.funpic.de/indexa.html
I can't quite find the code for that animated frame in the site source. So if anyone can help me with that code, I would be grateful.

156KB for a background is pretty hefty for dial-up users. It's nothing for broadband.

That Whitewhisper site is uing an Iframe for the animated area. Not a good practice either.

I just want to let you all know what's happeningI was looking to buy a software and was about to buy from one of those big and expensive sites, but then i dsicovered a site at www.buy-cheap-software.net which sells the same software for much cheaper.I first thought it's gonna be some kindof a demo or what, but when i ordered and got the software it was just the full functioning software, exactly the same that i was about to pay way higher!now, can anyone tell me what a big monopoly is going on there? These big stores are selling the same software for multiply-time expensive! Is this some sort of special politic to keep the prices high? Shouldn't we all say "NO" to this kind of monopolization?

If anyone is up to it, I would appreciate reply on the bacground question above, how do I set it up to load faster, but I don't wan't to loose any quality on the image. (the image is saved in "save for web" options already)

Ok, let me then rephrase the question.
How big max can the background be to load properly with slower internet speed? What is the trick of a lot of sites that have haeavy graphics backgrounds but load normal?

Could you give some examples?
