For my local websites, on iis 5.1, on win xp pro, nothing shows up in the browser - a blank page. In the IIS manager, there is an error beside the default website button. When I try to start it, it shows me the error:
Unexpected Error 0x8ffe2740 Occurred
In the http://support.microsoft.com/?id=816944, article for this error, they said another program is using the port 80, I changed the iis port to 85, the website started, but yet nothing on the browsers. I ran tcpview, and this is what I get for tcp ports:

What is going on here? This used to work OK previously.

never mind, found out the other application using port 80 and diabled it, now iis works.

It's always a good idea to post the solution even when you find it yourself. It may be a help to others searching for the same problem.

Should I guess at installing Skpe killed IIS ?

he he he, yes, it was skype. Did u have the same problem or were you smarter than me?

Not personally, but the problem has cropped up with a couple of colleagues and many times on tech help forums.
