Hi guys

I was wondring if anyone could see why my browser logo is not working in IE, it's fine in FF just not IE.

Here's my code:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/ico" >
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/jpg" >
<link rel="icon" type="image/gif" href="animated_favicon1.gif" >

Files relating to attached. And there is the faveicon.ico file in the root folder on the server.
Attached Images
File Type: jpg favicon.jpg (11.5 KB, 23 views)
File Type: gif animated_favicon1.gif (3.0 KB, 23 views)

" And there is the faveicon.ico file in the root folder on the server."

Is there a favicon.ico or as you claim here a faveicon.ico

Which version of IE is it not working in?

Try this syntax

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" />
<link rel="icon" type="image/gif" href="animated_favicon1.gif" />

You realize you have to SAVEAS an ico file for a favicon to work.

That would be a little difficult, given that we don't know where to look.

Ok I tried changing the code a suggested no Joy.
Still just working in FF.
this is the web address where the files are:
http://www.natashapowell.co.uk/test/Index.html

The file is indeed favicon.ico in root folder.

Marketingman you say "You realize you have to SAVEAS an ico file for a favicon to work. "

I'm not sure what you mean, can you explain a little further please.
Thank you.

I used the auto creator at this website to create my icon:

I think as soon as you put your file in the root directory instead of the test directory, it will work on both.

Try renaming your file to indextest.html place it in root and see what happens.

Not all browsers treat favicons the same.

Can one assume you've uploaded the gif to your root directory also?

I've experienced the same problem. Used the suggested syntax above, with no luck. FF ok, IE no. Using in root directory as an ico file as well. Curious to see if anyone has any additional suggestions. I read something about IE caching the file, but even forcing it to reload has not worked.

I tested with files in root and it works now in IE. How silly! Thanks.
For Quels, I also have the following Meta tag on the page:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7">

I'm pretty sure IE ONLY looks for Favicon in the root directory, thus the file that calls it has to be there too.

I'm not sure that Emulate tag is 100% necessary, but i guess it can't hurt.

You're welcome ladies.

Well, it may do, depending on how the release version of IE8 handles it.

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...mulateie7.aspx

it was/is there to put IE8 (Beta) into IE7 "Standards" mode and well all know how great that was (could be worse though, it could be IE6 "standards" mode).
