This depends actually and don't make assumptions. Get confirmation from all your contractors.
I've spent more time as a freelancer than a full time employee. One firm I worked for was totally fine with me listing the work on my portfolio. Another company did not want me to list anything which was fine with me.
Currently I have contracts with two firms, one of which is fine with me listing the work on my website while the second firm will be happy on the condition that I state their company clearly on my website and link back to them which is absolutely fine for me.
I always charge a higher rate for those who refuse to allow me to list work on my portfolio as I see it disruptive to my marketing. The rate is about 10% more.. nothing ridiculous.
So yeah, speak to your clients and find out. Most should be fine.
