Oookay, I've been having a bit... scratch that... A LOT of trouble with getting this layout of mine to work on my site.

I've got four images all layed out through a table. The first is the banner, it's centered at the top of the page. Just under that is the main content area. To the left of the main area is the links bar... to the right is a login bar.

What I need to do is have something that will correctly align my text over the image.

I've tried using <div> to align it, but when I try and use it within a table cell, it aligns to the ENTIRE page, not just the top and left hand sides of that cell...

Try using the images as a background in the table cells instead of as content in the cell, set your cell padding to a comfotable distance from the cell edges and put your content, text, navigation etc. in the cells... if it mucks up the layout fix the cell/table sizes.... Welcome to the board

When I tried to set the image as a background, the cell dissappeared completely!

It is because there is nothing in the cells... make a placeholder called spacer.gif make it 1pxX1px and save it as transparent. After setting the cell bg, paste into the cell the spacer... set the image size to 1 px tall X the width of the bg image. Now the cell will stay as you wish.
