I have a site http://www.thedailyrant.co.uk. In Mozilla Firefox 0.8 and IE 6 with 2000 / 98 etc. the top banner appears (rant from the hills on it). However, in IE6 XP (version 6.0.2800.1106.xpclient.010817-1148) the top banner does not appear! If I go to view source the browsers completely ignores what is between the <div id="banner"> </div> tags :-

With IE 6.0.2800.1106 Win 2000:

<div id="banner"><img src="images/banner.gif" width="740" height="160" alt="The Daily Rant"/></div>

IE 6.0.2800.1106 WinXP:

<div id="banner"></div>

It is only images that the browser ignores, text works ok.

I have tried numerous solution. Orginally it was set up so that the banner came from a css as a background image for the div id 'banner' - that failed with IE6 XP also. I really cannot understand why the browser is ignoring this! Any ideas...is it actually the web site or is it 'strangeness' from IE 6 WinXP?! Either way I need a solution .

Thanks

BB

Not a problem with Internet Explorer!!!

It seems that as I had the top banner named as banner.gif Norton Internet mumbo jumbo thingymbob was blocking it!!! I renamed the file etc and now there is no problem. Shame I have wasted my life on this...I think I will have to have a rant about it.

Anyway thanks and take care

LOL.. I once spent over half an hour troubleshooting why a product image didn't show up. Turned out it was norton blocking any image that was 300x300 pixels (somebody's idea of a common ad size).

I had to shave 1 pixel off a size and it was fine. I had to get in the habit of naming navigation items with mediakit instead of advertising so clients could advertising their own advertising guidelines (it's a magazine publisher which makes most of their money from ads!)

I know everyone tells you to get rid of Norton, but until EVERYBODY gets rid of Norton it's essential you test your site with it.
