I think the w3c offers a good service (validating html and what have you...free i best point out), and it is for the benefit of others. For example,
I can't mouse over...how do I mouse over?
My vision is bad...Can you site work with a screen reader?
If I want to save bandwidth and disable images can I see the text describing the image?

There are a few more scenarios where they do help you (even though it seems they hate you).

Though, before you think I'm 100% for the w3c, I dislike how they let businesses decide whats on there guidelines (For example the business might not want valid code on the guide lines because there product can't produce valid code).

Okay, that's different. And I use onfocus in conjunction with onmouseover. That was always my understanding of how it was supposed to work.

I'm unfamiliar with touch screens (you're actually the first person I've heard of that uses one). What would work as a mouseover equivalent for a touch screen? II'm personally okay with using anything and don't really care what it is, but there should be something for your situation.
