Hi Sam,
First up, welcome to a whole new wonderful world of sleepless nights and petty frustrations that is web designing!! We all love it otherwise we wouldn't do it.
Secondly, no need to be sorry, we all had to start somewhere and the question you pose is not as straightforward as it may seem.
I don't think its possible to embed a True Type font in its native format. You will have to convert it to one of the following file formats, Embedded Open Type (.eot file) or True Doc (.pfr file).
There are merits to each, but as with most things that rely on cross browser compatability, it just aint there! To get maximum browser coverage, you may well need to convert the font to both portable formats.
This Tutorial at WebMonkey goes into much more depth and explains how to do it.
It's not easy and personally I don't think its worth the aggravation. If you want to use a font that's not universally supported by most systems, I would restrict the use of this font to main headers and titles and create them as images, then use a standard browser/sytem safe font for the main parts of the text.
Hope this helps and if anyone out there knows anything different - please please let us know!!
Ian.
