Hi All,

I have a client that wants a "place holder" image to be shown in relation to a video (over where the video will appear). They want it to appear before the visitor pushes play and then again when the video is over.

How do I accomplish this? Is there a parameter I can use in the <embed> tag? Please let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks in advance,
Nathan

Teutonic,

The only way you could do this is to use JavaScript to query the player when it is over. I know this is possible with RealPlayer and Windows Media Player -- not sure about Quicktime. The JavaScript would then set/unset the "visible" attribute on the embedded player. The problem with that, then, would be that if the play/stop/pause controls are integrated onto the player, then those are invisible too and there is no way to start the video.

Have you looked into how you can query the player if it is "running?"

You could just embed the video clip in a .swf file and set up the first and last frames to be a still image, that way you could setup your own video controls (play/pause/stop) within the movie itself.

True, Flash has many video-embedding tools these days and, in my opinion, far exceed the usability of the native players themselves.
