They don't help with search engines...especially Google...As they simple include another page in the frame...and Google will class the contents of the frame as a seperate page...

I think thats right

Am I to assume it is a bad idea then to utilize a banner rotation script that uses iframes?

You mean you want to display banner ads in an iframe?

In that case it wouldn't matter as you dont really need the search engines to do anything about them...As long as your visitors can see them and click them its ok

Hope this helps

php of javascript.

... what are the alternatives to using iframes?
take a look for example at the website i made ... it's in the signature ... i use iframes there so that the sizes fit almost any resolution and that the main page (which is pretty large according to my standards) would not load twice.

how could i replace the use of iframes in that case?
one alternative would be simple frames ... but would that not be the same thing with search engines as it is with iframes?

thanks

I'm curious about the use of the iframe as well. sometimes it really helps me to build around the designs I've been given, over which I have no control. but if it's not helping the search engine issue, I don't want to use them.

thanks,
Tracey

You can easily get by spidering by using a robots.txt.

just tell it to deny access to the dir with the files containing iframes

I.E
Disallow: /DIR-WITH-IFRAMES/
