the bbc news site has some pretty good news feeds and i'd like to put one on my site but i want the ticker effect to cycle through the rss items.

can anyone point me to a site with suggestions or examples of the best way to do this.

i've not had much experience with rss and i'd really rather not have to build an xml parser from scratch.

just in case anyone suggests searching google, i've done that but have found most have adverts embedded or require payment.

i did find one by dynamic drive but it was huge, 300+ lines of code and i suspect there is a simpler way to do it.

I would use Ajax but its going to be a lot of code (from my experience) - are you just trying to pre-load like maybe 10 items and them have them scroll through? if thats the case just use Javascript timers, if you want actual streaming content you will need ajax.

I would just set up an array in javascript then set up a time event to update the display every 5 seconds or so -

i think i am going to have to write another long winded short lived xml parser.

but they charge for the ad free version and they don't take biscuits as payment
