I have worked in screen and print media for 5 years now and could not imagine using anything other than PS. I have given honest attempts at PSP, but am utterly disappointed every time. The extra money is well worth it, there is a reason it's industry standard.

I use both. I prefer Photoshop when I create huge website templates. I like paintshop pro for small effects especially when I use it for 3D image touchups.

You mean there are people out there who use Paintshop?!?! Get outta here...why??
I use Fireworks most of the time for average web graphics. Photoshop for high level photo-realistic edits. Illustrator or Freehand for illustrations. And 3D CG with Flash for animation.
I remember Paintshop, I gave it to my kid to play with.

Who said anything about buying it. When your trying to learn to use an application to build skills so that you can be of value to future employers I think paying hundreds or thousands of dollars is too much, and 30 days isn't long enough. I'll buy stuff if I use it for clients to make money, but not to learn. I think Maya has the right idea in offering a full version free developer edition for their $7000 3D application.
How do I get it without paying? Borrow it...

Coming from a designer's perspective photoshop is great for everything we do in the office. Now, we do have an expendable income dedicated just to purchasing new software products, so of course we use the best. But for home users who just need to touch up photos, don't waste your time and money on adobe. Don't get something because everyone else uses it, get it because it is right for you. So, PS gets my vote.

I love Paint Shop Pro all the way! Photoshop is too large of a program and is very slow even when you have a 3GigHz machine. For day to day webmaster work there is no need for photoshop. Give me a project and I can do the same thing in PSP. It is fast, and just as powerful. Even for high resolution images.
PSP all the way! Wish I could vote but it won't let me. Seems the voting is over.
Also, PhotoShop uses tons and tons of ram. It is just too big of a resource hog. Sorry but I like things fast and istant! PaintShop Pro delivers!

I like Fireworks because it lets you click directly on the object, whereas in Photoshop, you need to select the layer in order to select the object. When you have like 50+ layers to work on (because of text placed everywhere), Fireworks definitely wins!
The only major con is that Fireworks is extremely slow on my Celeron running XP and G4 running Mac OS X at home...

I love Paint Shop Pro and often boasted that I could do anything in PSP that you could in Photoshop...
but I was wrong. See, I could do anything but get a job. Everywhere I went, they would ask me if I had photoshop experience, I would plead my PSP case, and they would say, sorry, PS is the industry standard. So if your a professional, keeping PSP around is dangerous... (I still LIKE PSP better, but PS is industry standard and more widely used in the buisness world)

I started off using PSP, but now I live by PhotoShop, especially for all the web specific functions CS implemented, as well as the batch processing abilities, among others.
(I have no clue if PSP has these, but I'm sticking with Photoshop until I have an amazing reason to persuade me otherwise).
Note to Paintshop developpers: Offering me a million dollars to use only Paintshop is a GREAT start as far as persuasion goes.

I have used Paint Shop Pro since version 6 up to version 8. Then I switched to Photoshop. It took some time to learn whats going on, but now I wouldn't consider switching back.
Anyways Photoshop effects are much higher quality and I love many other things too, which make life easier.
Anyways I don't use neither right now, I am using GIMP.

I love photoshop. It's the best. But that was the first one that I really learned on and from my experience, the first one is always your favorite.

I will go with Photoshop. I downloaded trial of PSP and I found out that it has alot less features then PS so I'm too used to it to switch to something else.
The other program I use is Macromedia Fireworks but thats only for simper tasks like editing text (I have over 6k fonts on my PC, and PS7 doesen't let me see the font before I choose it), and doing smaller projects that dont require hours, and hours of hard work (like you have to put up in PS to get a good pic)
