I'm just wondering on the legality of using some fonts in my logos and web sites. I know that if you use Shareware fonts that you are not supposed to usually put them on the web in your own logos and such. But what would happen if I sold a logo that used a FREEWARE font somebody else created. I'm not selling the font, rather I am selling the logo that uses the font. And then when I sell the logo, the customer will get the Photoshop File or whatever with the custom font in case the customer doesn't have it. So would it be illegal for me to do this? Or, since the font is freeware, could I sell the logo with the font? I would make a little agreement thing that says I'm not selling the font and that the font was not created by me and such. Pleez help me with this...

I'm not an expert, but I would assume that fonts come under the same sort of rules as clipart i.e. it depends on the exact license you obtained them with, for example your license for Microsoft Office allows you to use all the clipart for any purpose, commercial or not. Similarly, many of the font CDs etc. which you can buy will give you the rights to use that font.

Best idea would be to either check the source of the font (website etc.) or to e-mail whoever made it. In general, though, I don't think you should be too worried about using fonts.

Yes.. some fonts are free, others arent'... and also, just becuase you see it as "freeware" on one site, doesn't mean it is.. try to find its original author's listing, and that is the license... all too often I've seen a commercial font that is listed as freeware.

The other side to it is... it can get soo hard to distinguish what font it is, as there are SOO many similar ones out these days.
