Hi, I'm new here and am glad to have found the forums!!

I really don't like Adobe Photoshop and still use Micrografx Picture Publisher 10. It's so intuitive, it's like my right arm!! But I know a time will come when it will no longer be compatible, and I will have to learn another program. Does anyone know of a program that is closer to PP than to Photoshop that is currently available?? What I will miss most is the way the clone tool works and the ease of drawing masks.

Thanks, Wendy

I don't know what Picture Publisher is, but Jasc PaintShop Pro is kind of a cheap version of Photoshop. It may have what you need.

I used micrografx picture publisher before! If you hate adobe photoshop, because its complicated, use fireworks mx. It is sooo easy! You can work with both vectors and raster graphics at the same time. Drawing a mask is as easy as drawing a plain graphic and pasting it as a mask! Common tasks like dynamic menus are done in minutes. You can also use it for print, but it has no channels, or any of the higher end stuff... but then if its for web design, i doubt youll need those...

Wendy -

I have Windows 98 and will never switch to Windows XP because I hate it. If the day comes that I ever have to move up from Windows 98, I will move to Linux and won't want to be stuck with a bunch of new expensive Windows software.

Picture Publisher 10 works fine with Windows 98, so if you ever switch to another graphics program, please consider selling your Picture Publisher 10 to me. I am using version 7 now. You can email me at megalonzerg@yahoo.com if you are interested. Thanks.

Hi Wendy. I am using Picture Publisher 7 and it works fine with XP pro, If you get rid of PP10 I would certainly like to buy it or pay for a copy . Its certainly ok in XP. Regarding an alternative I also have Photoshop 7 and I find I cannot get to grips with it. Its so compicated and I think it is tuned to industry standard working practices. We have Corel to thank for the demise of Micrografx.! If you stay with PP10 you will only be forced to change if the file standards are not supported. If you need to batch change files, a very good FREE software is IRFANVIEW slide show you will find it on the web. It was featured in the WHAT DIGITAL Camera MAG . It has more file conversion facilities than Adobe Photoshop. Regards Brian Wright.

hi thread. I have used Ppub since it came out and still do. It became Webtricity suite incorporating PP8 and got rave reviews which it deserves. PP10 is still available off Amazon for $US79 new(Jan06). It was largely oriented to digital camera use and did not update the PP content much. Now Corel own it and have dumped the development :-( I may sell my PP8 Webtricity suite quite soon/ Ali-mac australia

HI Wendy,
I, too use Micrografx PP10 every day. I have had four large art shows and have been asked to give a talk to a group of photographers about picture editing. After the clone brush, my favorite tool is the light studio. With three aimable and narrowing spotlights of any tint I can transform the blandest photo into a professionally lit image. I had no trouble installing PP10 on XP and hope it follows me to the grave.
