Hello,

I have this image in photoshop in PSD format just fine. I also have a pattern background as a separate file and in GIF format. How can I insert this GIF file in the photoshop file/image so it would be the background of the photoshop image?

Thanks

WRONG - there are several steps to this plus selecting everything (on which file?) by hitting ctrl+A is completely unecessary. The question was how to move a gif file into the background of a psd image file so here is the correct way to do it.

1. Open the photoshop image and the gif file in photoshop and place each file side by side on the workspace.
2. unlock the background layer on the gif by double clicking on it in the layers panel. a window will pop up asking to rename it - just hit ok.
3. use the move tool to drag the gif over to the psd file and release
4. once its there it will create a new layer above the psd image layer
5. click and hold on the new layer, drag it down below the existing photoshop layer and that will make your gif the background layer

or
with the psd open: File > Place (browse to the gif) and click place, then you have the gif with like an envelope back outline over it (a rectangle with a diagonal cross in it).

use the cursor to move it to where you want and double click to finish placing the gif.

the gif is now in its own layer above the original, double click the background layer

then follow steps 2-4 above
