Hi,

I would like to create a glossy background for making banners, the same as seen in the glossy orbs. Do you need Photoshop to do this ? I only have Paint.net.

Thanks, Mickmac

I haven't used Paint.net but in photoshop, you achieve this by using gradients and subtle changes in the shades of colours.

The orbs go one step further and introduce additional layers with transparency effects such as 'overlay' or 'screen' to give it that shiny look.

In paint.net; look for gradients and if there is one,.

I just ran a search;

A plugin in advance gradients for Paint.net

Photoshop isn't required - you can do it in pretty much any graphics program. Here is a link to a tutorial on glossy orbs created in Photoshop, but you can apply the same methods in pretty much any other program:

You can try using GIMP. It's a free software much like as Photoshop.
Plus it can do this type of work easily.

Just put a white layer above your logo and control its opacity. With the right opacity, it will become a gloss.

I'd say, get PS, as it's THE best program ever.
