This is just speculation on my own part but I think
the Yahoo/Bing search deal is going to put the brakes
on Flash ever becoming a threat to stodgy old HTML.

Last year Adobe was working with Google and Yahoo
on ways to make FLASH more search crawlable.

Microsoft Live was a glaring omission.
Why? Well the fact the Microsoft have their own
rival to FLASH in SilverLight must have played
a part.

Google has made announcements that they are
getting better at FLASH crawling but Yahoo has been
noticeably silent. Either they have pulled their own
resources from the project or Adobe got wiff of
the Bing deal and decided to stop co-operation.

So now with MS and Yahoo effectively pooling market,
there are about 1 in 3 search inquiries that wont be
able to see FLASH content.

Of course if Silverlight gets scrapped or if the 2 products
diverge sufficiently that Adobe feels comfortable to resume
co-operation that would be good for FLASH.

Until that happens, I think all responsible SEOs have to continue
to warn their clients about the inherent crawlability failures of FLASH.

Yeah, I guess it's all up in the air at the moment but I have since read about Microsoft's new video service which uses windows media player AND flash player (omitting silverlight) but then I guess this is the same Microsoft who have been stubborn with their IE and web standards.
