I would like to know what most people prefer as far as clients, and graphic designers here for logos.
I am a long time Photoshop user so it comes easier for me, I find Illustrator a tad bit more confusing.
So which program do you use for your logos?
Which do most people prefer their logos to be done in?

You really need Illustrator for logos because PSD images will NOT be scalable to any size, an Illustrator, VECTOR image, will be.

Yea, so really the only thing you would need to create in Illustrator is a logo?
Web Templates, Banners, etc can be done in photoshop?

Photoshop is a one stop graphics monster. I have a friend who does it all with photoshop. It really just depends on what you are used to using. Its all about personal preference when it comes to graphic design. I prefer photoshop, but thats what I use on a weekly basis.

Is this the only reason that Illustrator is preferred? I seem to remember someone saying that you need Illustrator if you want to draw your logo "by hand." Is that easier to do with Illustrator?

As I said, the thing about using Illustrator is that it creates VECTOR images which are completely scalable without losing quality. You CAN do vectors in Photoshop, but it's just not meant as a vector program. Graphic designers who do logos, signs and such for a living, use Illustrator.

I also started with photoshop, when it comes to logo designing, many customers will ask for the AI file(Vector Format) for printing a large banner or making a sign for their store.
Photoshop is better for creating banners for a website or for editing photos.

I always prefer to use Photoshop whenever I design. Either if it's graphics, web page, picture, etc. I suggest that if you want to design a log, better try to do it in Illustrator. A lot of my friends uses Illustrator in designing their logos. And do all other stuffs with Photoshop.

I would use Corel Draw 10 and then import it into Illustrator CS3 to put finishing touches on it. All vinyl graphics need to be done in Corel Draw because Illustrator likes to put slices anywhere it pleases.

And why would you even USE automated 'slices' ?? If you want to control the results, relying on the default 'automation' in any program is asking for headaches.

It's difficult, I know, but the fact of the matter is if you have the best tools, then you have the best opportunity to produce excellent results.
Photoshop and Illustrator both have steep learning curves, but once you get proficient with these tools, then nothing else is good enough.
You really need to be pretty good with both tools if you're serious about graphic design. There are some good tutorials that can give you a serious "leg up" on that learning curve. Try adobe's Total Training Series and also visit Lynda.com
Good luck, Chris.
In the long run it will be worth the trouble.

Sorry, I tried both at the same time with an absolutely neutral opinion on both... and the winner is... ILLUSTRATOR. I feel more like I am creating something rather can just cutting stuff and modifying.
Both programs are awesome but I think of this way (as I am sure most designers do). Use Illustrator for the building blocks (or skeleton) and then Photoshop for modifications (the skin). That's how they were designed to be used =)

Combination of both would be great, it helps you improve the design more and can be very appealing to visitors... And a right typography is the best after design for a site...
