Dear friends,

I have some .eps formats for a project work. But I do not know which are all support the format. I do use GIMP for my image edit requirement. But it does not open that .eps format. Please do guide me, which are all support .eps formats. I need to change those format in to jpeg format.

Please do guide me.

EPS are vector files. You'll need a program like Adobe Illustrator or XaraXtreme to actually edit them. Photoshop will OPEN them, but as rastor graphics.

You might want to ask your client for a JPG version, then.

I get EPS requests all the time and I don't really use it, but high end graphic designers (who I guess do it for a living?) do.

If you need a software that will open Vector .EPS files, yet don't have the capital on hand to invest into a paid version, I would suggest trying the Open sources vector software: INKSCAPE <<~~ Click there.

It will open your .EPS & allow you to edit it

as tamar said- ask for the file in a format you can use, though an uncompressed format like tiff or similar would be allow you to do your own resizing and compression.

You've failed to mention exactly what the project work is.

If it's web then EPS is completely redundant. Leave that to graphic designers who design for print.

If it is web then do as LadynRed says and simply open them in Photoshop. It will do all of the converting for you. The profile will most likely be in CMYK, so you may want to change it to RGB.

If you need to edit the image then yes Inkscape is a free open source vector program if you are needing it for other reasons then speak to your client and obtain the correct files you need.

Just to continue the discussion here, I also have to recommend Inkscape. It is a great program and one example of how open source can succeed in great ways. It is essentially the vector editing equivalent of the GIMP.

I believe it can even open .ai files, if you ever need to do editing like that.

dyer, it's good that you ended up getting a .Jpg from your client, However, I would suggest still getting a few editing softwares like Inkscape in case you have clients in the future with .Eps or any other vector files. Not all clients know how to open / edit / convert files into the formats the designer needs, Thats what the designer is being paid for.

Good luck!

I use photoshop for opening them and illustrator for editing them.If you only want to edit, you can use a smaller program like XaraXtreme. But if you like vector art, i refer Adobe Illustrator (also you can play with .ai files- i called them brother of .eps files)
