Can you edit PSD without Photoshop?

Is there any other software instead of photoshop that we ca use to edit PSD files? Can we do that in GIMP? Please Help!

though i would recommend getting photoshop as I think it is much better and can do alot more stuff and easier to use than GIMP.

PSD or PS are the native formats of Photoshop. This is the industry standard, like PK is the standard for zip compression, Adobe is the standard for .pdf documentation, and x86 is the standard architecture of computer hardware. You can open and edit these images in almost any graphics editor, but you can't save it as the same unless you are editing in Photoshop.

Yep as noted above Gimp would be next choice if not using Photoshop, Fireworks is great too but I've never used it much on psd's so not sure.

GIMP can open and save PSD files, but they always have issues with text layers, usually being unable to edit them, sometimes seeing it as a bitmapped layer instead.

Hate to burst your bubble but your wrong. I edit and create PSD files with the GIMP and save them as PSD files.

I think now there is a photoshop online which can do basic editing, you may want to try it out

What is Fireworks?

And murphy20 are you able to edit Text Layers?

You can open them in Paint Shop Pro, i think.

Yeah, you can. I just tried it out. ^_^ Just that some of the features are unsupported.

I think Fireworks is an art program that does flash and other cool special effects. It's kind of like Photoshop isn't it?

I know you can also use ImageReady to open and manipulate Photoshop files and you can still save them as .psd files too.
