Nice, but I would take more time, and then it would be perfect. Good work.

audiomad,
Nice tut. Maybe you could include small screenshots of the application and tool selection.

Exactly! I've used both and I think FW is 10x easier than PS.
Fireworks was specifically designed to work with web graphics.
Photoshop wasn't!

I don't know about that. I use PS for ALL of my web graphics and haven't the slightest problem with it. FW has a few advantages, like layered PNG files, but for the most part PS and FW do the same things.

I think it's more a matter of what you're used to working with. The last time I worked in FW8 it drove me crazy because it worked far differently than PS. I too could do that same tutorial effect in PS in just minutes. That doesn't mean FW isn't as good, it's just always been .. well.. different. With the death of ImageReady with CS3, which I didn't use much anyway, I'll HAVE to use FW for some things, like the rare occasion I need to make an animated gif or need a layered PNG file.

That may be true. I've played around with the new cs3 only briefly.

In previous versions I do know that FW was better at optimizing images. A jpg saved
at 80% in FW had a much smaller filesize than that same image saved at 80% in PS.

Not sure I understand that comment, I can import images in PS !

PS can do vectors, you just have to know how to use the pen tool. THE vector program is always going to be Illustrator though. That's what serious vector artists use. Xara comes in a very close 2nd.

That does'nt import it. It opens it in a new window then you have to cut it, close that window and paste it with PS. With Fireworks you can work from the same window.

It opens the graphic as a new FILE, not a new window. You don't have to copy/paste, you just DRAG the new one onto your existing canvas.

Still..'tis a very small thing, and not enough to sway me
