lets say i have an image 100x100 pixels, if i select an area that is 15x15 pixels, what do i select to copy that selected area to a new seperate image?
i'm looking for something that basically copy & pastes into a new image but cant find it....?
yup, i've been doing that, I am just wondering if there a way to do it as i said, where the original image is left untouched.
(this might just be me being lazy here lol)
Use the marquee ( selection ) tool. Just hit M to get it.
If your example is a UI icon, pull down 'fixed size' from the 'style' menu, and then type 15 px for the height and width. Otherwise, just use 'normal' style and it'll let you grab whatever you want. For extra credit, you can use 'constrained aspect ratio' and enter 1 for the height and width, so that you can select any square you want.
Copy. Control + C.
New image. Control + N. It's going to ask you how many pixels the new image should be, and it's going to default to whatever size you just copied. So all you need to do is click the OK button.
Paste. Control V.
If you use Save For Web, you're all set. Otherwise, you want to go to the Layer menu, and Flatten Image ... when you paste something, it automatically goes into a new layer.
