SVG is great, but in the current state of the field, it's almost of no uses.
I have used it at work, to generate charts from datas.
I works great, but the browsers supporting it natively is too low for now.
And the weight of a SVG file is big, compared to it's png/gif/jpg equivalent (for usual size images, of course. I'm not talking about high-def images).
And most importantly, peoples used to bitmap editing won't get a grip too fast on vectorial editing, and I think that most of the time, the SVG file will b used as a source, but exported to an bitmap format. Like a PSD file is exported to a jpg or gif.
So no, I don't think that SVG will take any uprise compared to traditional formats.
