Illustrator is a primary 2D Vector software which does not apply here.

As mentioned by Capt Quirk & legallink, Blender 3D is a Free opensource option for you. Great if you have no experience yet in the 3D industry & wish to get your feet wet learning prior to investing hundreds of thousands of dollars on 3D software's up to industry standards like: Maya, 3D Max, LightWave, Etc...
I would suggest downloading Blender www.blender.org & start training yourself as soon as possible. If you decide that 3D is not for you, at least you won't be out of a large amount of cash.  (E.G. Maya Unlimited runs for around $7,000.00 usd)
