I'm puzzled with this one...

I'm working on a Flash portfolio and I'm importing images. They need to be fairly large to show off the quality. I've optimized most of them to be no larger then 25kb.

Now my question is this: Why is it that when I Import a 25kb image in Flash, it somehow manages to make the image 77kb instead of leaving it at 25kb. I noticed this when I was looking at the movie in "bandwidth" mode to see how fast/slow it loads. In the frame where the image is (an only the image-nothing else), that frame is 77kb.

Does anyone know why it does this? And is there a way to correct it so my image stays at 25kb?

This is just a guess but.... flash probably adds other bits of data relating to the movie itself. Things like frame rate, resolution, image position etc etc. I dont think this would account for an extra 50kb of data however. Hmmm its a tough one. Come to think of it i added a movie into a flash movie to try and compress it and it made it bigger, so at least its consistent.

Thanks stoo for your help... This thing was buggin' me so much I stayed at it all night. Then all of a sudden I tried something and it worked!

If this ever happened to you, (image size getting bigger when importing into Flash) you might want to have a look at "HOW" you saved those files. When I saved all my images in Photoshop I saved for the web, at 60% quality, with optimized clicked and progressive clicked. Well I realized that because I had progressive clicked, even though it showed the image being 25kb in Photoshop (and in my folders), when I imported it into Flash it made it 77kb. So I re-saved all my jpg images with the progressive box unchecked and now the file size stays at 25kb when imported in Flash.

Stoo, maybe something similar can be done when importing movies...
