Logo for PreSchool

My wife is starting up a preschool and would like a logo to go with it. The name of it is Realt na Mara Pre-School- and they'd like that in the logo, please.
They are pretty open to ideas right now -
"Realt na Mara" means – "Star of the Sea" in Irish.

The ethos of the school is – “To be the Best you can be”.

The Preschool is a fun play based centre that allows children to develop and grow in the safety of a loving and secure environment where children’s needs are paramount.

I will need the logo in file types that can be used for anythingthat needs to be done. Including getting a large sign made for the wall of tehpreschool.

If I have missed anything, please let me know.

I suggest you to ask for a vector file instead of a .psd, since this logo is going to be used on large surfaces. If you will use the psd it probably will get low quality. Anyway I will submit as soon as I've got some time to work on it. Thanks!

You've never done vector in Photoshop? It can be done.

it can but it's a lot easier in illustrator

I haven't entered these things since I became a mod (mostly because the prize amounts tend to be low), but this one seems to be a challenge, so I'll do it for fun, perhaps with a good tip.

I don't know just how Irish you want this, but here's a rough sketch. I figured a claddagh would be appropriate, you know, the nurturing hands and what not. The star of the sea is a faerie star reflecting on the waves.

Right now, as I said, it's a rough sketch. Perhaps if you suggested a color scheme, how many colors you can use, etc. then I can do a final vector version.

Thanks, kates. I've long been fond of your work, too.

This one I just picked up on the Irish elements and kind of ran with it, hoping to make something like a crest, but keep it simple. I thought maybe making look like a woodcut as you see it would be cool, but I may go another direction.

Guess we'll have to see what the CH thinks.

Here is my design, I thought more into the future as well and decided that perhaps the preschool could evolve into a full blown education institute so I created it what that in mind. Added the elements of water, the star, the banner symbolizing a wave (such as the ocean/sea). Blue inspires trust, which I think is a heavy factor with parents and their young children.

Please let me know what you think, the design is fully vectored.

Yeah I thought my design looked a bit too conservative for a preschool, I guess that's why I thought maybe for a future educational institute that includes all age group. But maybe it's best to go one step at a time. I will revise it to look a little more personable and Irish.

Got a hexa equivalent for what you're calling, "Petrol Blue"? What I call that and what you call it may be two different colors. Right now I'm working with 50% gray, CMYK Red, a shade of blue similar to the dark blue in Hylith's and what most people refer to as midnight blue.

Petrol blue is a greyish blue with a slight green tint.
