hello,

I have a small question. i've heard that google tracks the ip's you use to login to you're account, and asumes that theyre you'rs.
I even heard of a case of a guy that loged into his acount from a friends house, and that friend try'ed to cheat google ... and google banned all the acounts that loged in from that ip ( including the first guy account ).

Could this be true ?

if so ... does he track only the ip used to login into you're Adsense ....
or does he track even the ip you loged into you're Google acount or Google webmaster tools or analitics ?

Thank you.

google adsense tracks ur ips which u used to logins and treat its ur own ips. if they found more than 1 account on these ips, they banned all the accounts which are located on these ips.

Apply some common sense to this statement and you will soon see how ridiculous the idea is.

It sounds about right to me, only I don't think they're heavy handed like people like to make them out to be. We all know Google loves to collect information on us, and that's the reason gmail, blogger, maps, writely, spreadsheets, themes, custom search, groups, and everything else exist. They make some great stuff and seem to enjoy it, but don't think they don't save every little bit of information they can get, tie it together with other data when that's possible, and build a comprehensive record of everybody's movements through cyber and geo space.

My own personal opinion is if I hang out with a friend enough to write a post to my blog or check my adsense report ( haven't done that in two months, I haven't earned anything ) from their computer, it's not really proper to charge some company for them clicking my ads. Not that I'm going to cry over **** ebay ads, but it's the principal of the thing. Just like I want people to read my blog because I have interesting ideas and convey them well, not because they like me and feel obligated.

I totaly agree with that ... but my only concern is what happens if that friends breaks the google TOS ... i don't mean clicking some ads by hand .. but serios conflicts like making a automated bot to click ads. What hapens to my acount will it be deleted ?

What about if my ISP gives me a difernet ip every time i logon and in a period of time one of the ip i loged on is used by some guy to make a google bot ?

Which is exactly why an IP won't be used to ban YOUR account UNLESS they can determine your account ALWAYS logs on from the same IP.

There is also the issue with AOL users where EVERY AOL user worldwide comes from the same range of IPs that are AOL's proxy servers

Both of you have made good points going back and forth. The way most net access by clients ( ie people like you and me ) is DHCP. Now I've had the same IP address for two or three months because I leave my computer running all the time, but a lot of people get a new one every week. I wish I did, I kind of see that as a security hole.

Anyway, for that reason, and if you ever use a terminal or a laptop at an internet cafe, an IP address alone isn't enough to identify someone. An IP/TimeStamp is. Although Google is pretty smart at recognizing patterns, like mr Hirst pointed out.
