As simplistic as this sounds, have you tried changing the background colour to either that blue you use or the white on your page? That orange looks off.

Yeah, I have the background color as blue for a month and had a very low CTR.

So I thought I would go for a complete contrast, to see if that made any difference.

Do you think I would be better sticking to colors that blend?

Not really sure. About the only other thing you could try is white.

Maybe some of your problem is deeper than CTR though. I've noticed you have some pages that aren't finished. It's possible that visitors are getting turned off by that. Your injury table throws off your layout as well; maybe it's contributing.

I'm not seeing any layout problems, but the ads being displayed are often of not much value - like the injury list page - had ads for doctors - but I don't need a doctor - i'm looking at players injuries not mine. I would suggest you put more ads on the page and also try to get more content on there, maybe the fixtures page you make your self rater than link to the BBC site - etc, you can also use the google tags to highlight the content to google that you would like the ads to relate to - may help with more appropriate ads on some pages https://www.google.com/adsense/suppo...3168&topic=371

I used to place the ads on the side by yours but I realized that in a reader's eye the ads are not visible. When I came to your site I didn't notice any ads. If you want some good clicks from your traffic then place your ads in the main content and trust me from experience your CTR will shoot up.

Okay, that layout changed since the last time I saw it.

But the unfinished pages are still there:

http://fantasyfootballguru.co.uk/dream_team.php (yes, I know it says every Friday but at least leave the last team in there).

I know I saw another one but I can't remember where I saw it.

I actually like the way your Google ads blends with your site. I mean, it's obviously not seamless (and shouldn't be) but they're not tacky white background/black text boring block ads either.

However, as a colleague of mine recently wrote on our company < self promo link drop > ,a recent study by Marketing Experiments found that ad designs that blended into the site content could improve CTR by as much as 127%. As the study concluded:
Advertising that blended in and looked like a "native" site content performed significantly better than ads that stood out from the rest of the page.
The idea is that users are getting better at picking out what is advertising and what is not, and are less likely to click on ads if they don't look like legitimate site content. However, because the study only examined one kind of site, it failed to account for how different kinds of users behave very, uh, differently. Essentially, it all depends on what kind of content you have on your site. Sometimes the more that advertising stands out, the better.

As always, it's best to know your audience. Despite what I said earlier about liking your ad formats, maybe some users prefer it when ads stand out a bit more, especially when it comes to entertainment sites. Check your conversions. If they're high, then you're already getting the right type of users clicking on your ads. You just need to figure out how to get more of them, and that you'll know by researching their habits. Do some marketing research, especially on user behaviour (ie behaviourial marketing). Find out what your competitors are doing and see if it's working for them.

I heard about blending I have no idea if it will help CTR. I think I might try this in the future.
